RECOUNTS
This week room 11 have begun to write recounts about finding something valuable. To begin with room 11 created the above mind map using My Thoughts to record all their ideas about recounts.

We then watched a video clip about Ken Wilman whose dog, Madge, discovered a hard, soccer ball-sized piece of Ambergris on Morecambe beach in northern England. Ambergris, also known as whale vomit, is a valuable substance produced in the digestive system of sperm whales that was historically used in perfumery.

The students then set about planning an experience about an occasion when they found something of worth.

Here are a couple of the finished recounts...

Cloud Heaven
“I’m just going to look in the cereal aisle”, I said to my mum as I kicked my brother in the shin because he had decided to wear his Barbie bikini to the supermarket.

I ran down the cereal aisle looking for the Taco’s. Tac‘o’s are my favourite type of cereal, each ‘o’ tastes like a taco. Ah, there they are, I said to myself. I reached out and grabbed the plainest box I saw. I ran back to the trolley gave my brother a second kick and handed my mum the cereal box.

When the lady at the checkout scanned the Tac’o’s her pupils grew big as she looked at the computer screen. “You have just won yourself a trip to America!” exclaimed the lady.

I think I was really lucky to have grabbed exactly the right Tac’o’s box. Lastly, my brother now wears a rainbow monkey bikini.

My Jungle Adventure!

I was exploring in the jungle slashing away at the vines and roots. I wasn’t looking at the ground and before I knew it I was lying face down in the leaves and dirt…

“Ow” I said out loud, I rubbed my nose, I had skidded a bit, my nose hurt as well as my whole face. I slowly looked up and WOW! I exclaimed because right there in front of me was a giant ruby glistening.

Once I had hacked my way out of the jungle, I choose a jeweller, called Joe Pin, and claimed my 5 million dollars in one-dollar notes of course!

Now I have retired and live in a big house with a pool and everything! Thanks to that rock that made me fall over I have lots and lots and lots of dollar notes!
