SHORT STORIES
This week during literacy room 11 have been writing short stories. We began the week by examining the short story rules developed by Edgar Allan Poe, he said that a short story should include:
- 1. Be complete by itself.
- 2. Be able to be read in one sitting.
- 3. Have every word used for important effect.
- 4. Have a good opening sentence that is developed throughout the work.
- 5. End at its climax.
- 6. Have no more characters than those necessary for the action.
We then watched an animation based upon Edgar Allan Poe's famous short story 'The Tell Tale heart'
In preparation for our own short stories we looked at the role that the setting plays within a short story. It
- Provides a credible situation for the character/s to be in (physical landscape).
- Gives insights into the behaviours and attitudes of the character/s (mental landscape).
Drip, Drip, Drip
I suddenly opened the door with a creak then I heard voices saying "I'm going to get you!" I opened the bedroom door the voices got louder and louder. Every step I take I hear the floorboards creaking behind me.
I shouldn't have gone into the house I am regretting my decision. What is that dripping noise? I slowly make my way into the kitchen, the smell of blood makes me sniff the air.
I take a chance I keep on searching the house. Drip, drip louder and louder the noise gets. I open the cupboards, I faint, 10 hours later I wake up I cannot believe my eyes...

The Mysterious Murder
We heard a crash! Me and George woke up, we grabbed our Rex guns and went to investigate. We found a broken vase in the living room, we took a photo and went to the lounge. We found the master of the property dead, stabbed in the heart by a knife!
We look in the kitchen and found the knife with blood on it, we analyse it for finger prints and match the prints to the butler!
