Week 2 Catch-Up
Room 11 have been very busy lately writing their speeches, researching information about their chosen lost civilisation and designing their costumes and mask designs for the Wearable Arts show in week 8.
The celebration began with Mrs Buckley reading a fantastic book all about counting to the number 100.
Room 11 then helped their buddies complete various activities related to the number 100 such as writing 100 different animals.
Last of all we had a shared lunch that even included a delicious cake with one hundred candles!
Ancient Egyptian Cartouche |
On Friday room 11 designed their own Egyptian cartouche using sugar paper, crayons and dye. The most difficult part of the process was writing their names in hieroglyphics.
A cartouche was an oval circle with a name written in it using hieroglyphics, rather like a nameplate, a cartouche was attached to the coffins of kings and Queens. The ancient Egyptians believed that you had to have your name written down somewhere so you would not disappear when you died.
