EXPLANATION WRITING

This term the main focus for writing in room 11 is explanations. So far we have looked closely at at the structure, use of technical language and inclusion of cause/effect relationships in an explanation.

Using the Loch Ness Monster as motivation we examined many explanations about this wondrous beast and then wrote our own explanations about creatures/monsters we have created or about those creatures/monsters we have heard about.

LIZA

The liza is a very evil creature. Sightings of the liza date back to the 1300's.

The liza has extremely long mossy hair because where she lives is always covered in seaweed. She has razor sharp teeth to tear off young children's flesh. She has a pitch black tail for camouflage.
The liza has nothing on her face except for teeth and massive nostrils, she has no eyes on the front of her face, but she does have one pea sized eye on the back of her head.

The liza lives in the lake Lagoo. She lives in a hole which she dug with her teeth. Her cave is dark and covered in weeds. People believe that the liza never sleeps because she is a spirit created by the devil!

She sucks the life out of people swimming which gives her power, .she also eats weeds and dirt to increase the size of her hole. The liza loves the taste of little boys but can't stand the taste of little girls.

So if you ever go tramping past lake Lagoo and you feel like having a swim, think to yourself, ''Am I a little boy?'' if you are, for your own safety Don't go swimming!

The Jersey Devil

The jersey devil is a devil like beast from the Jersey pines.  A quarter of the population believe in this beast and over 900 people have encounter this demon like creature.

The Jersey devil's natural habitat is the new Jersey pines. The New Jersey pines is a large stretch of forest that covers a quarter of New Jersey.

One scientist claims that the Jersey devil is actually a mutated human raised by animals.

Some of the features of this creature are horns, a large pair of wings, a ram head and hooves.
The Jersey devils hooves are designed not to leave a trace as in leaving no prints. The horns are for ramming into prey and defence. The Jersey devils ram like head is useful for looking like a goat because the Jersey pines has a lot of goats. The Jersey devil has wings to help it find a vantage point to spot animals

The devil myth is still around, still supported and still strong and you never know maybe you'll be the next to see it…
