WEEK 4 INQUIRY

PART 1
The song 'Survival' by British rock band Muse was selected to be the main official song for the London 2012 Olympics

Since the 1980 Moscow Games, Olympic themed songs have become a staple feature. It can be quite a challenge for a band or a singer to create a song that contains an Olympic message, which will be interpreted around the world by many different cultures.

Today room 11 began to explore the question:

How do you create an Olympic theme song?

We started our inquiry by watching the official song of the 2012 London Games called 'Survival', written and performed by Muse.

To help room 11 with their inquiry the students examined the the lyrics to the song 'Survival' and thought about some questions that would assist them with answering the main inquiry question. Some of these included:
  • How can you find the right band or signer to perform the song?
  • Why is a particular song chosen?
  • How do they choose the right song for the Olympics?
  • How do you write a song with an Olympic message in it?
  • Would you make it an ear worm (catchy song)?
  • What would make an appropriate song for the Olympics?
Not all of the songs chosen to be the official song for the past Olympic Games have been as impressive as Muse's 'Survival'. Room 11 watched the song chosen for the 1980 Moscow games 'Olimpiada' performed by the artist Tonis Magi
