SPEECHES

This week room 11 have been putting the finishing touches on their speeches in preparation for the presentations next week. On Monday we looked at how to create an ending to our speech taking into account the following details...

People most commonly remember the first and last things they've been told when listening to a speech

If you want your speech to create a lasting impression finishing with:
'Well, that's all I've got say. Thank you for listening',
isn't going to have the impact you want.

Ask yourself what do you want people to do as a result of having listened to your speech?

Go back to the original purpose for giving the speech.
  • Was it to motivate or inspire?
  • Was it to persuade and/or see an issue from a particular point of view?
  • Was it to share specialist information?
  • Was it to celebrate a person, a place, time or event?
What you choose to do with your ending should support the overall purpose of your speech.

Write your ending and test it out loud

Today we examine the speech criteria that will be used to judge each student.
