Narrative Writing

For the remainder of the term room 11 will be exploring narrative writing during literacy time. Today we began by brainstorming all the different types of narrative writing that we could think of, these included:
  • Legends
  • Fairytales
  • Real life dramas
  • Fantasy
  • Adventure
  • Horror
  • Science Fiction
  • Mystery
We also used a short story called 'The Great Grey Sandwich' (sourced from 'Writing Fun') to examine the way a narrative is organised. We found that it is structured into 4 main parts these are:

Orientation: This part sets the scene and mood and introduces the main characters
Complication: This is where the dilemma or problem is introduced that sets off the events in the story.
Sequence of events: These are triggered by the complication.
Resolution: The ending where the problem is resolved.
