Persuasive Writing

This week room 11 have started to explore the persuasive writing that exists within food advertising.

We began our first session by identifying all the different language features that were apparent in an Aunt Betty's 'Fruit Tarts' advertisement.

This is what we found...
  • Slogan
  • Appealing Adjectives
  • BOLD lettering
  • List of the different flavours that are available
  • Capital letters to emphasize particular points
  • Pictures of the product and the packaging
  • Using a question
  • Interesting language to keep the reader intrigued
  • Rhyme

Today we zoomed in on the language features of appealing adjectives, intriguing questions and list of benefits that advertisers use to persuade people to purchase a product. We talked about why advertisers would use these features and the effects they might have upon consumers.

Using our new understanding of these techniques we then identified their use within a couple of food advertisements.
